About Heading

Intro

Given its technological slant, the CIT can feel like a hostile environment in which to come out. The LGB Society provides a sanctuary in which gay students can be themselves. Joining the society can help you to establish your identity, and for some is a first step towards coming out.

Absolutely everyone is welcome to join the society, regardless of sexuality. You don’t even have to be a student at the CIT. (Btw, we’re particularly eager to recruit members from the Crawford and the School of Music.) We’re not here to judge or label you, just to provide a platform where you can meet new people and maybe experience something a little different.

Aims

The society has a mainly social focus, and chiefly provides a networking service for gay students in the college. It caters for those who are openly gay and for those in the process of coming out. Support and advice are also available to those dealing with the issues raised by their sexuality. The society works closely with the Welfare Officer to ensure the health and safety of gay students in the CIT.

Besides these aspects, the society has also developed a political agenda. Foremost among its aims is to promote tolerance amongst CIT students and to increase gay visibility within the college.

Meetings & Events

During term, the society meets every second Wednesday. Everyone, but everyone, is welcome—look out for the posters we plaster all over the college. What goes on at the meetings? Well, they’re usually v. informal. We chat about the pressing issues of the day, discuss any society business and then we have a gang-bang (we jest, we jest). Meetings practically always end up in Loafers or Instinct, where we’re usually joined by a few more stragglers aka UCCLGB.

We also organise little trips and outings (not that kind), including the now annual Debauch in Dublin.
